patienceGC, sidr is right, both about the procedure and the delay involved. Also, in some Taluk\'s, they refuse to even look up in those torn ledgers unless you are accompanied by a parent. Funny thing is, in most of the cases, even if you have the accurate details, you won\'t be able to find information in those ledgers, mainly because 30 years ago the clerk would have scribbled your birth details using the native language! Now, think of the possibilities. Another thing is, during those days it was a common practice to deliver babies at "homes" instead of "Nursing Homes". I think, for most of the people who are from rural areas and whose birth\'s would not have got registered properly, either intentionally or due to lack of education and awareness, it might be a better idea to say that you were born at home by providing a couple of affidavits from close relatives, and then by getting a "not available" certificate from the Municipality.
