Hello what happens if the DOB on govt. certificate is different?

My parents gave me a wrong DOB to get me into a school early. The govt certificate has a diff DOB.

What can I do?

An advise.

You should not tell them your original DOB. You should tell them your passport DOB ( say DDD ) and tell them to search your record. They will not find it in the records and will issue a certificate saying that they did not find it. Then you should take it to the Taluk Office and then get an order from the concerned person( Here 2 important officials are involved - do not konw exactly ) to issue a DOB certificate with the date you specified ( DDD ). Then you should take it back to the Registrar of Births and Ds and get the DOB issued. This one is a lengthy procedure takes a total of about 3-4 weeks. This is an outline of the procedure but may vary slightly depending on which state you are from. Should start right away.

This is what I did.
Go to Municipal Office for My record.
They did not find it.
They issued a letter saying that my DOB is not registered.
I took it to MRO (Taluk officer basically)
You should provide 2 witnesses (in writing) saying that they were present when you were born ( Uncle and Auntee Basically)
MRO will sign it and forward it to an official at District level (RDO) - Requesting permission to issue a DOB with specified Date.
When MRO receives the letter from RDO, he will again stamp it and issue orders to Registrar of Births and Ds to issue a DOB certificate.
Then go to the Municipal office and get a DOB issued by Registrar of Births and Ds. Simultaneously they will also register your DOB once and for all.

Hope this helps.

You can goto the court also and they can give you a birth certificate. It usually costs some money.

in delhi it costs Rs.8k !

You can start from scratch as if you don\'t have Birth Certificate.

My father got my Birth Certificate. He contacted a broker and paid him some money. Then the broker took my father to court and prepared a sworn affidavit before first class magistrate. Based on this, the municipal office issued the birth certificate after 1 month.

Hope this helps.

The simplest way...

is to go to the Indian Consulate in the US with your passport and get your Birth Certificate done. They charge you $20. Don\'t mention to them about your wrong birthdate in your birth certificate. They\'ll issue a Birth Certificate based on the birth date mentioned in the passport. I got it done this way.

Sometimes they do not accept the birth certificate from consulate and issue RFE for affidavits etc.

... I got Birth Certificate from Consulate on producing Passport.
RFE NOT issued .. passport stamped and got plastic card too ..

patienceGC, sidr is right...

patienceGC, sidr is right, both about the procedure and the delay involved. Also, in some Taluk\'s, they refuse to even look up in those torn ledgers unless you are accompanied by a parent. Funny thing is, in most of the cases, even if you have the accurate details, you won\'t be able to find information in those ledgers, mainly because 30 years ago the clerk would have scribbled your birth details using the native language! Now, think of the possibilities. Another thing is, during those days it was a common practice to deliver babies at "homes" instead of "Nursing Homes". I think, for most of the people who are from rural areas and whose birth\'s would not have got registered properly, either intentionally or due to lack of education and awareness, it might be a better idea to say that you were born at home by providing a couple of affidavits from close relatives, and then by getting a "not available" certificate from the Municipality.
