Wrong A# in Application for N400

Guys,

I am stunned...I don't beleive I made a blunder mistake on N400 Application. I got the A# incorrect. I mailed the stuff today to Texas Service Center. What should I do now?

(1) Should I try to contact USPC and have them divert the package back to me so that I can attach the corrected application then resend?
or,
(2) Have USCIS receive it and then tell them about the mistake.

Please suggest or share if you have heard of such incidents. Thanks in advance.

Either solution sounds fine with me. However, I don't have practical experience on this. My best guess is if they are good enough they might check the A# on the photocopy of the Green Card you sent with the application and will be able to spot the typo.

My 2 cents

Thank you Huracan. Yeah, I've sent a copy of my green card. How stupid of me to also write down the incorrect A# in the enclosed two Money Orders, as well as behind the 2 photos. It is like mistake every where. I hope I can sleep tonight.

I don't think USPS can recall mail allready sent..don't worry about your USCIS receiving your application package and focus on informing them on correcting the information instead. Things like this happen..at least you caught your mistake early in the game.

With my surprise, USPS has a form called PS 1509 which is for recall. I went to the post office this morning, filled up the form, gave them all the information in the form and the Supervisor is going to fax the form to the current location of the packet so that it can be recalled to my address. The supervisor told me that there will be charges for that which includes some hourly charges and postage necesarry to mail it back. Who knows how much but I think this may be worth it then have USCIS receive the incorrect application and ask me to provide the corrected ones. Just wanted to share with you all. Thanks for your suggestions...you guys are good!

I wouldn't worry

I know this whole situation is a bit scary and must be feeling awful. I am sure you are not the first one who did this and you won't be the last one. I would give USCIS couple of weeks before they send you out your receipt notice. When you receive your receipt notice, make sure your A # looks right on that notice. Like Huracan said, I am sure they will be able to cross check with the copy of your GC, catch that mistake of yours and fix it with red ink. I wish you had sent personal check instead of money order. Is there a way for you to confirm that the money orders has been cashed? Again, no need to panic. Just be patient and you will find out early May on whats going on.

if the UPS thing doesn't come through for you, don't worry, the USCIS will catch the mistake and send it back to you. mine got send back for something else. i lost 2 months but it was returned to me with my check included (and not cashed) good luck

Thank you Atlanta Brother...yes, I am hoping for first the packet to be recalled if not the scenerio you mentioned will be correctively applied.

man you were so careful ... you asked about using pins and two money orders and made a blunder... I guess it happens when you are too careful. You will be alrite with that recall.

I know right..although the excitement to fill N400 was not the same as filling up apps during I-485. And, yes, sometime, it is good to just relax and do the right thing instead of overly right thing. I was making sure everything is perfect and I made the most important mistake - got my A# wrong. I'd have not notices until I was going thru my I-485 folder and saw the A# listed.
Yes, I did mention my marriage in there in part 3G, Part 8. Although, I;ve a question: In part 8G, it asks 'How many times has your current spouse been married (incld. annulled marriages)? And, my response was N/A since it is first marriage for both of us. Is that OK? Or, should I write 'Zero'? Thanks guyzz!!

N/A or zero is fine. The IO will go over your entire application during the interview, so no need to worry.

I have a bad news for you

The answer to that should have been "1".....Yes you heard me my friend "ONE". Man, I don't want to make you feel bad.....I am sorry and I really feel bad for you coz I don't want to make you down. How could you write N/A. yes, if you were single, sure you would write "Not Applicable" but here your wife is married to you. So if someone asks your wife, how may times have you been married? Her answer would be "1" coz she is married to you and it's her first & hopefully the last marriage. I don't have a better way to explain.

Now, what happened, happened. Make sure you bring this up at the time of your interview and have the officer correct this mistake. Tell him/her that it was an honest mistake & you got confused. Make sure you take your marriage license/certificate along with you as a backup. You should be ok.

Let's double check

N/A or zero is fine. The IO will go over your entire application during the interview, so no need to worry.

Either one of us is not thinking straight Bobsmyth. Let's go over it again. I just went over my N-400 form and I had written "1" for my current spouse.

Hi Atlanta brother...I am refering to 'Instructions for N-400, Application for Naturalization' and it says very clearly the following:

G.For any prior marriages of your current spouse, follow the instructions in section F above.

and F says the following:

F. If you were married before, give information about your former spouse or spouses. In question F.2, check the box showing the immigration status your former spouse had during your marriage. If the spouse was not a U.S. citizen or a Lawful Permanent Resident at that time, check ''Other'' and explain. For question F.5, if your marriage was annulled, check ''Other'' and explain. If you were married to the same spouse more than one time, write about each marriage separately.

Based on those, I wrote N/A. originally I had '1' as well, then I put '0' as I thouhgt it was asking about any 'prior' marriages, then got confused again hence put 'N/A'. Please suggest.

1 is the correct response Atlanta_Brother. You must count the marriage you are currently in. So 1 for first and only marriage which is still in existence. 2 for previous marriage that ended and current existing marriage - and so forth. Zero is for single - never married.

Thank you for jumping in and getting this straight coz according to LucyMo I am very new to this and hardly have any knowledge etc etc.

I am glad I got this one right but I wish I was wrong. This way 2BUSCTZN would be relaxed.

It's very simple

The best way to explain this is, I will go back and write the same thing which I wrote in my previous post.

I know that this is not what you would like to hear but like LoLali said:
