Writing book on H visa

Hello-

I was offered an opportunity to write a scientific book for a publisher located in Europe. I'm currently on an H-1 visa in the US. I will write the book on my free time. The publisher will not pay an advance but will pay royalty on sold copies (in 2-3 years from now). My company lawyer expressed a concern that I cannot take the royalty because I'm supposed to have only one job on H1 visa. However, my argument is that I will not be employed by the publisher and I should be OK to write and accept roayalties as long as I pay taxes on them. Do you know if I can find a line in law to resolve this issue? Thanks!

You can get royalty paid in your out of US account, Europe publisher sends check on your name and it is deposited in your home country account (speak to tax specialist)
Your lawyer is correct but it is not your second job, if you write any article to be published in any papers like India and if they pay, you can deposit in your Indian bank account in India it is not a second job

royalties are passive income. No issues, you can get it anywhere you like.
