Would the gov't shutdown affect immigration processes?

Oh yeah, true. CIS is funded almost entirely by user fees. They charge us an arm and a leg, and yet they screw us over so often... hehe.

While CIS may be funded from user fees, I'd be shocked if there wasn't some impact. I'm not sure if DOS can give out a visa number in the case of a shutdown.

I just spoke with the USCIS media representative (posed as reporter for local paper here in Hawaii since many of us have to fly over). If there is a government shutdown offices will remain open for interviews, biometrics, etc., because it is fee based. However, other services that involve other government agencies such as background checks, e-verify for employers will not be available.

Very happy about the fact that office will be open as Natz interview/test appointment on Thursday, April 14.

I heard it on the radio that it will affect issuing of new visas which will include adjustment of status, removing conditions etc.

They'll stop processing US passport applications. Unlike green cards, US passports are partially subsidized by the government.

And consulates won't be issuing visas (probably not giving visa interviews either).

I agree with Jack as this makes more sense.

DISGUSTING. You just admitted that you are a liar on a public forum.
