Worried about "immigration intent" in the future

Hi, Im from Australia and my DV lottery application was accepted. However, my desire to move to the US is a lot lower than what it was a year ago due to different circumstances in my life and I'm considering just leaving it.

If I choose to not go through with this process, am I going to have issues in the future applying for tourist/work visas etc? Does applying for the DV lottery (and "winning", but not completing any of the forms) mean I've shown immigration intent? I've looked around the forum but seems to be lots of mixed answers

Entering the lottery and even winning does not cause raised suspicion of immigrant intent. Submitting the DS260 (i.e. submitting an immigrant application), does.

Used to think the same, then learned that applying for the lottery is taken into consideration as a factor among others in the decision making when an application for non-immigrant visa is submitted..

No it isn't. No embassy knows the selectees until KCC tell them. Entering (and being selected or not) DOES NOT increase suspicion of immigrant intent.

I'm not sure you read it correctly. The embassy tells the person asking that his applications for the lottery will be a factor when considering whether to grant a non-immigrant visa. They do know if the person has applied and take it into consideration.

Oh my. I DID read it properly. But I also know what they do and don't know, and what they ask. They *will* ask if someone made an immigration application - so that means a DS260. They *could* ask (but could not check) whether someone entered or won the lottery. That latter question is not asked typically - and again they could not check. They could just as easily ask if someone likes apple pie. It would be just as arbitrary.

They would be influenced by an immigrant application but they are typically much more likely to deny temp visas for lack of proven ties to the home country.

Twenty million people a year enter the lottery. They are not all disqualified from tourist visas!
I got ...hmmm maybe 5 US tourist visas (3 one year ones then they started giving me ten year ones). Not once did I get asked if I'd entered the lottery.

I applied for a tourist visa last December and I was never asked about the DV Lottery. I got approved in less then 3 minutes and was granted a tourist visa for 10 years :)

Entering the lottery is not an application.

Even being selected is not an application. It's merely the US government giving you the green light to apply.

I've been asked before of I'd had a visa refused and if a petition had been filed for me from the states.. never had a DV related question asked at my B1/B2 interview.

If I already submitted ds260, it means I might have trouble crossing the border to US as a tourist since I am showing immigrant intent? I know I asked this question already but I am traveling in a few weeks and I wanna make sure I can cross the border. Have there been cases that u know about who submitted ds260 and managed to cross the border? Thanks!

Yes submission of form DS260 signifies an immigrant intent.

There are no guarantees when it comes to crossing the US borders, the decision to admit or not is always at the discretion of the CBP. Only USC are guaranteed of admission.

All you can do is ensure you have with you enough evidence proving you do plan on returning to your home country at the end of your trip. Also be sure to answer all questions asked truthfully. And yes, we know of numerous cases of successful admission into the US following the DS260 form submission.
