Will the J-1 visa still be valid If I am in India and come back to US after 4-6 months

Hi,

I am a postdoctoral researcher on J-1 visa. I have a family emergency and I have to go to India for 4-6 months. During that period, I will not be paid. I am wondering if it is possible to still keep the J-1 visa even if I am not here in the US and not getting paid. Will I still be able to come back to US on a J-1 visa after 4-6 months.

If your employer accept and keep your DS without revoking it, no problem at all.
