Why the officer needs to keep my original interview letter after the interview?

Mine one has been kept by the officer. The officer said that needs to keep it, and is not going to return to me, but I have not made a copy for my personal record yet!!!

This is because at the bottom of the right corner indicates " Applicant Copy ", same as fingerprint letter. I thought interview letter will be returned, just like fingerprint letter.

So, folks, any similiar experience? They need to keep it or return it to you?

Please don't just tell me that I don't need it after interview!!! I need a clear answer.

I wouldn't worry about it since your interview was over.

That's because they have their manual that says them to do so. You may file g-639 to request a copy of even your whole a file.

Yes, it does, unless they have lost it. You will be surprised what they have in there.

Not sure about your interview, but my interview letter was date/time stamped by a machine when I passed through security. They would keep the letter because it now has a date/time stamp of your interview.

It is too late now, but you should have photocopied it before going. This question has been asked many times on this forum.

As has been mentioned, you can get a copy with the FOIA but that is a very slow process. My suggestion is to forget you do not have a copy. Easy for me to say I know, but there is nothing other than the FOIA that you can do so no point upsetting yourself.

WhichWay2Go, you said that " This question has been asked many times on this forum. " But I don't see any thread !!!

If I know that before, I must make a copy before having my interview.

See if you can post some links, so that I could see other people experience.

Yes, my interview letter was stamped by an officer, but not a machine, when I passed through security.

It's standard practice to collect the interview letter at the interview. The letter is added to your A-file, in order for USCIS to complete their records. You never mentioned why you need a copy of the interview letter, so I assume that you need it as proof of interview. If that's the case, you should have received form N-652 after the interview. That form is legal proof of having completed the interview. If you specifically need a copy of the interview letter itself, the only way to obtain it at this point is to file the FOIA request, which will take around 8-10 months to process.

If anyone can be a representative, then let spouses file G-28 for each other so you always get two interview letters
