why second fingerprints

Hi Guys,

This question just popped in mind. what is the logic in asking people for second fingerprints? and what do they mean by fingerprints expire in 15 months.

I understand that once they run fingerprints through database, it is likely that something might happen and that person's fingerprints may get in system within those 15 months while application is not adjudicated.
But in that case they can run the same finger prints again to check for that..

Do our fingerprints keep changing every 15 months?
Could someone please explain?

Thanks

The FP don't expire themselves, it's the validity of the FPs that expire. The same goes for GC..it expires after 10 years, but your status as a LPR doesn't.

USCIS does not save your digital fingerprint in its system. That's why you have to redo it after 15 months. USCIS needs to collect it again for the 2nd submission to FBI.

They will have to throw fingerprints away every 15 months as they don't keep them every 15 months, but records will be archived at every police station, FBI, etc for security purposes.

So fresh fingerprint will be needed every 15 months until your citizenship application is approved and oath is completed.

This was one of the suggestion of the Ombudsman. If you (USCIS) are going to delay and application for any duration (15 months) for whiich you will consider a person's fingerprint to "expire", why don you save the finger print until the ajudication is complete.

Answer: None. Not surprising. If they were inefficient to hold your application up to 15 months, why expect them to hold your fingerprint and save you, the support office and the FBI office time?
No brainer
