Anything I needed to do for USCIS goes into the taxes.

Isn't exactly a hobby to do that. Plus, bottom line, it enhances your chance of getting a job - so, it's an expense just like education.

Alternative is to get totally drunk and forget that you ever filed until you get the FP appointment, get drunk again until the interview invitation.
