I need to change my jobs based on AC21 portability. Looking for a good lawyer in NY / NJ area.

Any suggestions will be very much appreciated.

Thank You!

Hmmm...

Lubiner & Schmidt, NJ www.lslawyers.com , are good one. But they are very very slow.

They took 2 yr and 3 months get my I140 approved (RIR Labor).

I am suffering b'cos of that :(

Thats my experience

They are not really into AC21. They always suggests against. b'cos the law is so vague :(

sudhi_24,

27 months for I140?? It is almost impossible to believe!!!!! I thought my I140 wait of 6 months was fairly long considering my Labor (RIR/EB2) took 3 weeks.

Jim Mills

A friend of mine recommended the law firm of Jim Mills to me!

Has anyone have had any experiences with this law firm?

Please share your comments/feedback/experiences.

This thread will be very useful for people who want to change jobs as per AC21 provision and are looking for lawyers.

Regarding Lubiner & Schmidt, I know of 10+ people who got RIR labor and I-140 done in 4-6 months. They are good.

My experience is that just because a lawyer is not comfortable with AC21 doesn't make them bad. Honesty makes it very straight forward. I've heard of lawyers who take cases just to hook the client, collect their money and then get tangled in such a mess. I'd rather go for a lawyer who is straight forward and honest in their approach. Its the ever-confusing INS laws which are not clear-cut to begin with.

Native-born lawyers do have more connections inside the immigration circle and so, they have an edge over lawyers who are immigrants themselves.

Finally, don't ever go to a lawyer who is into all types of legal cases (divorce, civil, real-estate etc). They have too litle info on immigration and it will be a total disaster. Check with AILA.org on lawyers who are currently in immigration practise.

All are good, but

their cost (as well as service) may very significantly. Good lawyers to others may not be the best for you. Act with your own sense. Talk to them first to find out. The one who really cares about you (not only the money) is the best.

Anita,
I also have Fragomen and I would say that they are excellent. Whenever I called or emailed, got responce immediately.

Cheers!!!

Good lawyers are out there...but you just have to make sure you hear good reports from other clients. Some lawyers are just screwing you for the money....they don't care if you got approved or not...as long as they already got their money. My lawyer is one freakin' asshole...he did not submit my application because he was tight with money....and that was after I paid him in full the service and application fees....I had to bark at him for holding back my paperwork....then he submitted my paperwork a week after...

Re: Fragomen slow

It depends on the particular paralegal you work with. Some of them are a bit clueless and unresponsive and tend to push you from pillar to post.
