If you have I-485 pending, you can go back to school.

Also, with work permit (or EAD) you can work anywhere you wish to.

Question about I-485 pending and college attendance

I've gotten some confusing answers from USCIS on this.

A person here on B1/B2 visa cannot go to college in U.S. Same student with a pending I-485 can go to college.

A second call to USCIS said the same student CANNOT go to college in the U.S. because they could be turned down for change of status. At that time USCIS said that until the student could present a change of status approval notice from USCIS, not to admit them.

Any advice here would be greatly appreciated, especially if you can give me the pertinent CFR listing to go back to.

if that's how you asked the officer about the situation, no wonder everybody got confused and you got different answers.

when you say "same student" - what do you mean? Same as what?

A person in AOS status can go to school and does not need to change his status to F1. He will simply not apply as an international student, but as a resident.
