When should I return back?

Hi,

I have green card, I left United States after I applied and received my reentry permit (for academic purposes). I've been out for almost 16 months (more than one year). I'm planning to come back within 2 months.

Can I just come back with no problem? Do I need to apply for returning resident visa? Thank you all!

A re-entry permit is generally vaild for two years. As long as it is valid and you have not committed any crime or engaged in some bad activity, it should be OK.

BigJoe thank you! So does that mean I can simply purchase a flight ticket and return? No other formalities?

You already completed the "formalities" when you applied for the reentry permit, which gives you permission to stay outside the US for 2 years. So just buy a return ticket and show the permit when you arrive at the US immigration counter.
