Hi Everyone,

I married my girlfriend back in January, and she is a U.S. citizen. We are currently in the process of gathering all the paperwork and drafting the applications for Adjustment of Status (AOS).

Regarding my visa status — I’m on F1 OPT, and it’s set to expire in June. I am not applying for STEM OPT because I plan to submit the AOS package by the end of April or the first week of May.

Should I inform my DSO before sending the application package, or after I’ve sent it?

Thanks in advance!

Are you planning on getting an EAD in the interim? It could be many months (potentially well over a year) between submitting your package and being able to actually adjust, depending on your field office. Generally one would only advise the DSO after you actually have your green card in hand, or at least an EAD. Just submitting a package does not grant you any immigration benefits, employment authorization etc.
