When does the 6 years limit begin ?

I came to the US on a B-2 visa in Nov 95. I was given 6 months status on on I-94. Few days prior to expiration of my B-2 stattus (in May 96) I applied for transfer to H-1 status. This was approved on July 29th 96.
When does my clock for the 6 years limit on H-1 status begin?
Is it May 96 or is it July 96????
As you see my 6 years limit is fast approaching and I do not want to over stay. So somebody please respond!!!!

H1/H4 has its own clock...

F1 and OPT is not counted towards H1, so by the same logic B1/B2 should also not be counted. Your best bet is an experienced immi lawyer.
