When can you start using EAD?

I am going to file concurrently this week for I-140 and I-485 as well as EAD and AP. Lawyer said I should get EAD in 3 months (I don't know if he is being overly optimistic).

If I do receive EAD in 3 months, will it be ok for me to work on it immediately?
I thought AC-21 portability required passage of 180 days after filing I-485 before switching employers. Am I missing something here?

Your question is actually two questions not just one
-Yes you can use the EAD immediately once you receive it anywhere.
-Using the EAD with another employer will affect your pending GC application before 180 days is another story and depends on many factors. But if any adverse effect happen and your GC is denied, then no EAD is valid for anything.
