Can somebody please comment on when can the application for citizenship be filled up?

Does the applicant have to wait for complete 5 years after receiving the green card or can the applicant apply after 4.5 years?

Thanks in advance.

You can file (if your GC is employment based) citizenship application after (5years-90days) from the date of your permanent residence.

Citizenship for the family based GC holder

Gaurav,

Thanks for the info.

Do yo know when can a family based GC holder (not employment based) apply for the citizenship?

Sometime back, I heard an attorney on a news channel saying that the citizenship application can be filed upto 6 months in advance prior to the 5 year period. Please share your knowledge.

And is this info listed somewhere I can read?

Thanks.

Take a look at http://uscis.gov/graphics/services/natz/guide.htm (M-476). That will provide all the answers to your eligibilty questions. Regardless of whether you have employment based GC or family-based GC, the waiting time to file for naturalization is the same i.e., 5 yrs - 90 days from the date of PR. However, if one received a GC based on marriage to a US Citizen, the waiting time is reduced to 3 years.

Do we need to list the Traffic tickets on the Application

Do we need to list all the Traffic violation tickets on the Application for citizenship (N-400)?

Thanks.

Tickets

Is there a way to find out all the traffic violation in USA for time required (about 5 -10 years) to fill up the citizenship application.

Thanks.

You can possibly get your driving record by filling up some forms at the DMV/RMV. But, I think that is limited to 3 to 5 years, depending on the state.

If you know the Cities where you got the tickets you can contact the Courts and inquiry about them.
Anyway, traffic violations with fines under $500 not involving DUI, DWI, Recless Driving, etc. are not required to be "documented" anymore. But you still need to mention them.
If you can't get the record of all your traffic violations, just list them based on your best recollection.

Suriyan/Suzy977,

Thanks for your feedback on my question.

I was in LA when I got a traffic violation ticket "No Right Turn On Red Light" and another one when I was above the speed limit by 10 MPH. I don't really know the city/county names in both the cases. Is there no centralised place where all the traffic violations can be pulled by SSN. How does INS find all the trarrfic violations as they do have a complete record.

Suzy977, congratulations on finally getting naturalized. Did you have to anything to get the name check cleared or you were just waiting.

Thanks.

delhi ji,
I have heard that one can put approximate dates and approximate locations of the traffic violations if you do not remember exact details. Like mentioning just the year and that it was somewhere in LA, would suffice.

I think Suzy977 was clear enough. But just to reiterate, the message is you don't need to "submit documentation" along with the N-400 forms for fines under $500, but you still need to specify all the traffic citations and violations in the form while filing it.

How to check the online status?

Suriyan,

How to check the online status of the application. The check ($400) was cashed out by INS on May 10, 2006 but there has been no correspondence by INS yet.

Could you also explain what the following acronym stand for?

1. DO: SFO
2. NOA Date
3. FP Received: Mar 13th 2006

Thanks in advance.
