When can spouse get SSN who is on H4 ?

Hello All,
When can a spouse get her SSN after filing i485 ? Does she have to wait till she gets her greencard ?

Any info is really appreciated.

Haven't you filed EAD for yourself and your spouse.
After she gets her EAD she can get SSN.

I disagree with dma_va.

I believe she can get one once she gets her EAD. You need SSN to start work.

After the EAD. Take the EAD card to the SS office (very short process)

I missed EAD stage (since my spouse never needed it then).

You can apply for your wifes EAD. Once she gets the EAD , you can go to any local SS office and apply for her SS card.

No. As long as the primary applicant does not use EAD.
Also note that the spouse will need a AP to travel outside the country once s/he uses the EAD.

There is nothing the H4 spouse can do to invalidate the H1. It's a one way relationship; the H4 is dependent on the H1, but the H1 is NOT dependent on the H4.

if you are having 485 recipt , take the recipt , to Boston Local office JFK you will get EAD , same day u can apply for ssn
i got the similar way last month ,
