What's wrong with NYC?

We applied for I-485 back in June 2003, and had the interview on August 2005, and still waiting Can anybody explain the discrepancy between 3 months Dallas and XX years in NY? Why is there such a huge difference? It seems that people are punished for living in NYC? Is it because Dallas is in TX, and GWB comes from Texas, and only 23% of NYC voted for GWB? When I call the 1-800 and manage to get through, the answere I usually get is "there are a lot more immigrants in NYC than anywhere else." I think that's a really stupid answer, but I guess there is nothing I can about it. Any suggestions as to why it takes such a long time in NYC to process I-485. I called the 1-800 several times to inquire about the case. One officer told me that the case has been transferred to California for processing, the other told me that name check has been completed, and I should get the card in 2 weeks, and another nuthead told me that the processing time is between 270 and 300 days, from the time it was received in california.

Anybody with similar experiences?

If you have already your interview and you are waiting for "name check" that is another story and many people regardless of what DO they are most wait long or short time, nobody knows the timeline on name check. Can be from few months to a lot of months.
Some DO are bigger than others unfortunately regardless of the immigration population that lives there. Many people can feel that very frustrating but is the way it is so far. NY is not the only one that has very long period of time.
A year ago (If I can recall) there was a program as same as Dallas in NY (don't know where) and it was closed on the first quarter of 2005, I think. Dallas continue operating and the only difference is that they received ( is not obligatory) the interview first and you submitt all the documents at your interview, but many of them are waiting same amount of months than others. Their goal is to issue green cards in 3 months, unfortunately that goal hasn't been met in most of the cases.
At least you get already your interview, so hang in there. Don't call the 800 number when they start given you so many weird answers and you back in point zero. Get an INFOPASS with all your documents and check that out. By the way I assume they didn't stamp your passport?
Good luck,
