Dear Gurus:

My 485 has recently been approved and I'm scheduled to go for stamping. However, my first name is spelled slightly differently - just one letter is different - on my birth certificate from all my other documents (including my passport). Let's call them type 1 and type 2 spellings. All my documents including my current passport, I 140 approval and visas have the type 2 spelling. My birth cert has the type 1 spelling. In an RFE I was asked why the spellings are different. Also the RFE stated that if I could not show an official name change my 485 would be issued with the type 1 spelling. I sent an affidavit saying the names were the same and that the spellings were simple variations of each other. The 485 was approved with the type 1 spelling. I wonder if there are going to be any problems in getting the stamp since my passport is in the type 2 spelling.

After the stamp I envisage some problems since it might be difficult to travel if the name on the plastic card differs slightly from that on the passport. But that's down the line.

So gurus, what exactly happens at the stamping appt? What does the stamp look like? Does it have a name on it? Should I just get it stamped and get the plastic card, then worry about it later? What to do? Opinions please?

----- I think you should take the affidevit and officer can correct the name on white form where you have to sign and give your fingerprint before that is sent for Card production , you can request the officer to do it and take the orignal and copy of all or any documents that show your correct name that you want on your green Card
After the stamp I envisage some problems since it might be difficult to travel if the name on the plastic card differs slightly from that on the passport. But that's down the line.
----- if that happens you can file form I-90 after you get green card, better take infopass and file I-90 with local USCIS

--stamp is like a stamp :D
Does it have a name on it?
--stamp is on your passport page it will have your A#
Should I just get it stamped and get the plastic card, then worry about it later?
----- yes you can do that you can file I-90 later
What to do? Opinions please?
