Guys,
Just received my GC and wanted to know what document should I apply for in order to travel outside the US RTD or RP. Also I don't have my NP.
Please advise.
Thanks
Ed
if u r asylee only status,, u must apply and use RTD, If u got green card after waiting as an asylee, than you must apply for RP and use RP. If u use RTD even after getting green card, then it is illegal and wrong document to enter usa and you can face trouble at airport in usa.
I hope it's clear to u.
This is not true. As an asylee you can use either RTD or RP. This is your choice.

what are you talking about? RP is only for Permanent Residents.

why you put your opinion here but not the facts? our opinion doesn't matter when it comes to law and regulations. Again, do a fact check, if u have GC after being asylee for sometime, You can't apply or use RTD. RTD is for those in asylee status only without GC.
You must apply and use RTD if you are an asylee with no GC .
If you got GC, then you must apply and use RP.
I guess you should try to apply for RTD with GC copies and see if you will be sent RTD, They may send you back your applications to correct.
Well, actually, if you look at form I-131, it permits you to apply for RTD even after you became a PR as a result of your asylum status. I know this for a fact (as do many others on this board) that you can do so because I have traveled with RTD and GC and my notation on my RTD said Permanent Resident.

Guys,
Thanks for all the info. As I don't have a NP it would be better off to apply for RP as it would be good for 2 years. But looking at the I-131 Part 2 section C it states. I am a permanent resident as a direct result of refugee or asylee status and I am applying for a refugee travel document. I assume this applies to everyone who has received his/her GC through asylum would have to check mark this option on the form I-131.
Please correct me if am wrong and advise. Also see all the sections of part 2 of the form. Which one would you choose if you have a GC as a result of Asylum.
Part 2. Application type (check one).
a. I am a permanent resident or conditional resident of the United States and I am applying for a reentry permit.
b.I now hold U.S. refugee or asylee status and I am applying for a refugee travel document.
c. I am a permanent resident as a direct result of refugee or asylee status and I am applying for a refugee travel document.
d.I am applying for an advance parole document to allow me to return to the United States after temporary foreign travel.
e. I am outside the United States and I am applying for an advance parole document.
f.I am applying for an advance parole document for a person who is outside the United States. If you checked box "f", provide the following information about that person:

Quick clarification needed.... does the RTD have more recognition internationally than the RP and do some countries not recognize a RP? If not, why would anyone bother with a RTD when in fact, a RP costs the same and is valid for twice as long? I'm trying to determine if I should apply for one or the other before my current RTD expires.
I am a PR as a result of asylum.
THANK YOU.
