What is the benefit of getting an Entry Visa versus Tourist Visa for India?

What is the benefit of getting an Entry Visa versus Tourist Visa for India? For US citizens who happen to be PIO.
 
An entry visa allows change of status in India, and extensions as well. Tourist visa will not allow either. If 'm not mistaken, the Entry visa might only require registration after 6 months, vs 3 months with the tourist visa.
 
Thank you. So Entry visa does not require registration within 14 days as some visas do, which has duration of more than 180 days?
