What happens after successful N400 interview?

I was wondering what happens after one has a successful Interview and is recommended for approval. Does someone else review the file again before sending out Oath letter? Who sends out Oath Letter? Is it the same officer who interviewed you?

I have read in the forum that some folks after successful interview waited a few months before they finally got oath letter.

In some areas such as New York you get the oath letter on the spot. In NJ you get the oath letter and date the same day. How dies the process work differently there.

For what I've heard here it is reviewed by a supervisor and the decision is made based on the issue why it wasn't approved at the interview, so it depends on your case and why was it sent for review.

My app was approved at the interview but I got the hint that it goes through another process and its possible that one may or may not get the final oath letter.

I don't think there is a "HINT" there is either approved or recommended for review so if you don't know what was the outcome of the interview i suggest you wait for the oath and if you haven't received the letter in 30 days give them a call.

Mimi. My application was recommended for Approval. Which means it’s approved by the officer who interviewed me. I am just wondering what happens before they decide to send out an oath letter etc.

WOW you really confused me you just said I was APPROVED AT THE INTERVIEW hahaa anyway like i said it depends on WHY was it sent for review.....and it is reviewed by a supervisor in most cases not the interview officer. All you can do right now is wait.....I know it sucks.

lol I know especially when I am living/working in a different city and have to fly back again for oath.

AH! I bet it does, just have someone check you mail every day to make sure you don't miss it! Good Luck!

It doesn't matter who sent out the oath letter, just focus on when you receive the notification. I wonder why people are so focused on the behind-the-scene workings of USCIS, just be thankful that you were approved and the letter is in process to be mailed. If the same officer was the one mailing the letter, do you have a way of contacting him? I would encourage you to enjoy life and NOT be blindsided by small matter such as this one. Good luck and try some spiced pecan cereal by Newman, hmmmmmm....good for your heart...:)

Al, I don't think there is anything wrong with knowing how things work behind the scene. After all this is what this forum is about  Thanks for your advise though. I am not worried about it but curious to why other locations give out oath or letter same day and others dont.

If it was already recommended by the interviwing officer, I don't think there will be any further reviews. Just relax and wait for your Oath letter.
BTW, make sure that you don't get any issues like detentions/citations until oath is done.

:D

I agree, there is nothing wrong with knowing.:) Maybe it might be a fun project for you to undertake and inform the entire discussion board. You can research why other DO's offer interview and same day oath ceremonies while others don't. Don't you think you can contribute greatly to the education process of this forum? Google is a powerful too, is possible there are tons of memos from USCIS on this issue, which you toil for the benefits of the masses...:(

This is my take on how it works:

Once you have been interviewed, the IO will have the case sent to a secondary IO to have the case checked for final review and adjudication. Depending on DO and case complexity, a case that has been recommended for approval may receive a final review and oath letter the same day. In other circumstances, a case recommended for approval is sent for final review to a secondary IO, but depending on workload and case complexity a final review and adjudication could take several weeks or even months.
If the secondary IO approves the case, the case gets forwarded to oath scheduling department in DO who schedules and sends out (or hands out same day) oath letter.
If the case is denied by secondary IO, then the applicant is sent a notice by the DO.
Since every DO has different work structures, an IO could have several tasks assigned to them..so an IO who adjudicates a case may also prepare and send out oath letters. On the other hand, at some DOs an IO may only be tasked to do interviews and have the oath letter sent out by another IO.

This is my take on how it works:

Bob, knowing how Government departments and big business work, I am guessing it is simply rubber stamped if the IO recommended it for approval.

The supervisor may take a quick visual scan through, but my take would be final approval in under 1 minute. :)

If on the other hand, the 652 had "a decision cannot be made," then it would get the proper scrutiny.

Thank you very much Bobsmyth. This answers my questions.
