What does this mean?

Today the May 2006 bulletin is out and EB2 has moved to Jan, 2003.

In my case (sub labor):

PD is Nov. 2002
485 RD is Sept. 2005
I-140 approved in Sept. 2005
FP done in Sept. 2005

A# was given when the I-485/I-140 were concurrently applied in Sept. 2005.

So what are the next steps? Does anything need to be done by me/lawyer? Or just continue to wait until I receive some notification (?) from USCIS.

Do I have to call USCIS to determine if name check is done ?

Finally, if the bulletin is for May 2006, is it correct that the 485 status will probably change ONLY after May 1st, 2006 (assuming that the PD has moved to Jan. 2003 for EB2).

You do not "have to". it's up to you.

What you can do in the meanwhile?

You can make sure that your name check is cleared. For this, take an Infopass appointment and go speak to the rep and ask if your name check is cleared. If it is, there is not much on your side to do -- and consider yourself lucky.

If it is not, that is another story - but finding out now than later is helpful.
