What documents do I need to apply for a driver's license

Hello everyone,

I have a quick question.

I got married to a US citizen in September, filled out the forms I-130 I-485 and I-765 and sent them to USCIS. The forms were received by USCIS on Dec-8-2010.

Today, Jan-14-2011, I went to get my biometrics taken.

My question is, what documents do I need to request my driver's license? We live in MA.

I already have a SS number and I used to have a California driver's license back in 1997 (I lived in CA with a student visa for a couple of years) but it's already expired.

Thanks for your assistance.

Ronny

FROM: http://www.mass.gov/rmv/license/AcceptableId.pdf [a brochure] found at http://www.mass.gov/rmv/license/3id.htm with others.

"10. Employment Authorization Card………………………………….…...I-688B, I-766

11. Documents specific to the applicant* based upon decisions of the U.S. Department of State, U.S. Department of Justice (including Executive Office for Immigration Review, Board of Immigration Appeals and former Immigration and Naturalization Service), or U.S. Department of Homeland Security (including Bureau of
Citizenship and Immigration Services.)"

*This is not explained very well but your I-485 receipt notice along with valid photo ID (such as your passport or EAD) should suffice. MA seems to put a great deal of stock in you getting a valid SSN first. Although they don't specify, they would probably have a problem if it is not valid for employment without DHS authorization.

Thanks for the info.

I have a valid SS but since I got it when I had a student visa, it says not valid for employment on it. I will try to go this Monday to their office near my home with all my documents, maybe if I'm lucky enough I will be able to get it. Although I think that Monday the office will be closed because it's Martin Luther King Jr.'s day.

Anyways, wish me luck!
