Hello Everyone,

I am brand spanking new at this forum and would like some help with respect to the above topic, "What do i need to do for obtaining a TN visa at the border ?". I am currently looking to get a full time employment in the US as my wife (study visa) is currently residing there. I have been looking into the USCIS pages for a few days but was unable to find anything that was clear (at least to me) w.r.to what steps are needed to obtain a TN visa from land border officer(s). I would be super happy if someone could direct me to the appropriate sites for information or re-direct me to the correct forum page in case my topic has been answered many times before (advanced apologies in case this is a duplicate thread). I am looking for things like documents to be submitted, visa(s) to be applied, letters I would need from potential employers, things to carry to the border, and all other things that you all may seem fit.
Sincerely hoping for some help from the forum experts.

-Thanks

You need to get a job in the US first and request the employer to provide you a letter the meets the requirement of the TN job category. Good Luck.

Thanks @TnRaju , is that all I would need from the employer ? a offer letter (assuming I get one) and a letter that meets the TN req.
Do I not have to apply for any visa or go to the US embassy for the visa approval etc. It would be very kind of you to give some more details.

You dont need a visa as a Canadian national. But these days they are very strict. So you need make your petition worded strongly , geared towards the category you are applying for. You can see some other messages on this forum. Please visit the USCIS website and check there for details. Also your potential employer will have a standard letter they provide for TN ( either them or their lawyers ). As much as some members of this board think that a good petition is all it takes, you need to do your own research as to which border you will present yourself for the processing , closest to your province. If you are Canadian born, you should be fine.

Thanks a lot for the detailed response. I will look at the other forums for petition letter based questions and tips. Truly appreciated for your time.

Mtl, find a immig website that describes TN process, then come back with specific questions. This is not an FAQ. All the major legal webites have a page on TN, your not ready for forum questions, yet..
Ethics prevent us from mentioning specific legal sites, since they would be competitors for this firm, who graciously provide us with a forum. Google is your friend.

I know it's tough to believe but there's not some hidden door involved with TN applications.

You gather materials necessary to prove your application. Job offer, diploma, passport, related supporting documents.

When you are about to start your new job, you go to a USA border entry point and tell the officer "I am applying for a TN work permit" and they'll review and decide on the spot.

Thank you for that, I will take heed your advice.
