what date really counts for a green card without conditions

Hi,
I admit i am pretty confused as all the answers i get are different.
my question is:
If an alien married an american citizen in september 2003
-they applied for the green card in October 2003
-they had their interview in January 2005
-they received in May 2005 a "notice of approval of relative immigrant petition" saying that "the beneficiary had been given the appropriate classification" ( whatever that means ???) and that " the beneficiary will be informed of the decision made on the pending application".
Now they've been married more than 2 years with no real response from the INS.
What to do ?
Does it mean that the alien will not get a temporary green card but a real one since it's been more than 2 years of marriage.

if the AOS is approved after the second marriage anniversary, she will get an unconditional GC.

signification of letter

thank you for your response,

so if I understand correctly, that letter "notice of approval for relative immigrant visa petition" does not constitute an approval for my green card nor a valid date?
they approved the petition but do not tell me if or when I am going to get my green card. That's why I am confused.
My attorney told me it's a normal procedure that first they advise the petitioner and then the beneficairy, but the probleme is that I never received anything telling me what to do.

most likely i-130 is approved and 485 is pending. iF 485 is pproved then you will get a 2 year card as it was approved before two years.
