What can be used as evidence of financial support?

Hi,

I am preparing for my DV 2011 interview at American Embassy and I wonder what can be used as evidence of financial support. I can produce my bank statement but how much money do I need in my account? I can also ask my family from Hong Kong to sign an Affidavit of Support for me if necessary.

Can you suggest what I should do?

Thank you so much.

You cant. Only US Citizens or permanent residents can sign it. There is no written rule about the amount, but with 10,000 you should be fine.

I don't think I can easily find USD$10,000, may be only half of that amount - although may be i can find a friend in US to sign the Affidavit of Support for me.

As stated by the other poster a US citizen has to sponsor you...

Tax returns will be one of the papers of proof. Bank statements and proof where the money came from. My friend was asked where her money came from during the interview...perhaps due to her age and the amount of money she had, that they wanted to verify it...but that is our guess.

so how are people that don't know anybody in the US and just have the cash or bank statement for $10K supposed to prove their finances?
