HI
I have one guestion. What are the steps after someone is selected vor DV, and wich documents do you have to send to KCC, and what do you have to bring with you to the interview?

When do you have to have your medical exam fot the interview or to sen it to KCC?

Thanks :)

Not sure about the details, but everything is explained in the letter. I hired a lawyer to do it for me.
I believe I'm taking mine to the interview, because the doctor put it in a sealed envelope, so I have to bring it unopened to them.

You send DSP-122 and DS-230 (both parts) to KCC as soon as you can. I think you need to also enclose your pictures.

You are kind of running late on sending your docs in. The majority of people did it in July and August, but you still have time.

Then, when you get an interview appointment, you bring all your supporting documents, their copies and translations, fees, and medical exam results in a sealed envelope to the consulate.

Get all your supporting documents ready in advance. Most people get their appointment invitations about 2 weeks before the appointment - not enough time to get all the docs ready. Sometimes the invitations are late, that's why it's important to email KCC and find out your interview date in advance.

No need for a lawyer though

Hello,
If your case is straight forward, then, there is no need for a lawyer. The letter is very clear and the docs are pretty simple:

Birth certificate
Marriage certificate
Police report
High School diploma or proof of experience
Proof you can support yourself once you are in the US.

I just got my card yesterday and I started in October. If I had thought through, I would have had my card 2 months ago but hey, this was my fault (forgot to bring the police report). Don't fear the medical visit, it's very simple. I got 3 shots in one day (ouch....) but it went fine.
Now, not only I have my green card, but I am also up to date on my shot....

Just a question....

the part of "Proof you can support yourself once you are in the US."

How much money do you have to need?

In my case I will travel with my wife and a 3 year old child.

Another thing, we will go and stay for a while at my wife's sister until i get a job...this will help us???

Thank u

it will help if your wife's sister writes a letter of support, if she can't sign an affidavit of support.

As for the amount of money that you need to show, I'd go with the 100% of the poverty line for your family size, which is covered in form I-864P (you can get it from uscis.gov website).

You can show a job offer, property, bank statements, affidavits of support, and any combination thereof to show your financial stability. :)

Hi
Thanks for all answers!
As I understood you have to have money to cover your living costs in USA.
Is it enough to have money for few months or I have to show bank stsaement for one year costs or more.

Is there anyone who went trough the procedure and knows what amount of meoney is enough.

thanks

Hi LucyMo:

Thank you for your answer,

I'll ask my wife's sister to sing a lleter of support.
I have checked the I-864P and it said that for my family number (3) I have to prove that I have more than US$15,000???? This money is for a 3 months period or it's for a year?
To the interview I'll have a list US$ 4,000 to the interview.. and the letter that my wife's sister send to us saying that we will stay at her house.. do u think I have a chance to get the Green card??

Thnaks a lot for your tiem..

Mario

If you don't have the amount suggested, you have to show more proof. The letter from your sister is a good start.
Maybe you can try to get a job offer from the US. Does your sister know some company who could do that?
I am worried that $4000 and a letter might not be enough so get whatever you can gather to maximize your chance.
From my understanding, they are pretty lenient but I can't really compare to my case as I was already working in the US and own my house.
My best advice would be to try your best, try to get whatever job offer you can, bring everything and be lucky.
In any case, it's really worth it.

Hi,
I am expecting an interview invitation letter in the next couple of weeks. My wife won the lottery. Do the consulate staff needs the police certificates for only the applicant or from the spouse as well.

The reason i am asking is, that i spend a few years in the U.S. as a student but my wife has never been to the U.S. Do i need to provide police certificate from the U.S. since I am not the main applicant. Also, do i need to provide my birth certificate also or only my wife (the main applicant) ???

Thanks.....

It's for a year. :)

You never know what they are going to ask at the interview. It all depends on the level of your English, your profession and your education, on the impression you are going to make on your consular officer - whether you will be able to adapt soon.

My parents had an affidavit of support from my husband, an apartment appraisal and a couple of thousand dollars in the bank. Consul didn't ask for any of it, when he heard that they have me in the States - since he probably was familiar with our culture in which children always take care of their parents. :)

On the other hand, other people have been asked for affidavits and job offers. It's still a lottery, even during the interview. The consul may or may not ask for more proof.

No, you don't need to produce a police certificate from the States.

Yes, you have to provide a birth certificate for yourself.

Thanks

Steps After Selection

Hi LucyMO,
I know this post is from a very long time ago but it sounds like you really know the process. The only information I know about the DVL is from what I have been reading on this forum. I know it is very premature and maybe not even very realistic but I am hoping and praying that my spouse will win the DV Lottery.

We presently live in Canada but my spouse is a Turkish citizen. I belive there is a consulate in Montreal, Quebec. She would most definitely be doing CP processing. Are they going to require her to go to Ankara or do you know if the CP can be done in Montreal as she is not supposed to visit Turkey (asylum). Also how do the background and medicals work?
Can these only be completed after winning or is there anything we can do in advance? From where are the background checks going to be completed and can the medical exam be completed in Canada?
Please any advice would be appreciated. :confused

You don't have to go to the country of birth to do CP, you can do it in Montreal.
There is really nothing you have to do before you get the notification letter. Actually, if you would already get the police certificates now, they might not be accepted at the time of the interview because they would be too old. Once you get the notification letter, it tells you everything that you need at the interview. As LucyMo already said, all you have to do at that point is fill out the enclosed forms and send them to Kentucky Consular Center together with a picture in the US format.
IF you win this time, the earliest time when you could have an interview would be October 2008. However, depending on the case number which is assigned to you in the notification letter, it can be that you have the interview as late as September 2009.

My advice to you: Don't count on winning.... after all, there are like 10million people entering the lottery.... And you have plenty of time to get everything done afterwards... If you want to do something now, read in this forum about other people's experiences.

You usually go through the consular interview in a country of your permanent residence. Since you reside in Canada, the interview will be in Canada, even though the citizenship may be of another country.
