Walkin at San Jose ASC

Hi all

Few days back I received the approval notice for my I-140 and I-485, both filed concurrently at CSC (EB2, RD 12/17/2004, FP 02/14/05, AD 09/06/05). As per
the I-485 approval notice, I am supposed to take an appointment for biometrics.

The earliest appointment available at San Jose ASC (1220 Charcot avenue) is
on 19th Oct. If anybody had experience at this ASC for walkin without an
appointment, could you please share your experience. This will help me
decide whether to take a chance and try to get the biometric taken sooner
than my appointment date.

Thanks,

rk1990

I suggest you go there duing off-peak (1.00 - 2.30 PM). Generally, they accept walk-ins during off-peak hours. I walked-in before FP appointment date and didn't have any problem.

hi ,
my husband has tried walking -in for a fingerprint they were pretty good and i have received my ASC scheduled for 11th oct ,but i am planning to go asap and not wait for the scheduled date.

How about Oakland or San francisco ? I think they usually can accomodate ..
Just my guess.

Our first FP was done by walking in at the San Jose ASC last year.

They were pretty cool about our coming there without an appointment.

We went there around 2:00pm on a Saturday afternoon. There was
only one more family waiting ahead of us.

I was planning to walk in last Saturday again for BioM., but couldn't
go that day. My real worry is about changed procedure in Biometric.

I don't have a special BioM. letter like many folks. Just 485 approvals
asking me to schedule a BioM. appointment.

Hi Outletvolt1

I got my biometric done at San Jose ASC on 16th Sep.,
without any appointment. I went there at 1pm, and the
process was completed by 2.30pm.

I also had a I-485 approval notice asking me to schedule
an biometric appointment. The person at the ASC was a
bit confused and was looking for the code on my approval
letter, which was not there. But finally he did the biometric
after consulting one of his colleages.

I had an LUD on the same day, and received the physical
card exactly one week from that day.

Awesome rk1990 ! That's a great news.

thanks for sharing this info.

BTW - Did they keep your approval notices with them after BiOMetric ?

No, they do not keep the approval notice. It's returned back
to you after putting the stamp and the date.

How can you get approval without having to take biometrics first? I thought that had to be done first to clear your background check before you get approved.

Biometric data is only used for making the physical green
card. For the background check, you need normal finger
printing (code 1) done (which I did in Feb.05).

I got my I-1485 approval notice a few weeks ago and the biometrics approinment time is on the last week of Oct. I dropped by San Jose ASC twice on Sat Afternoon. For the first time, the receptionist told me that I need an appoinment letter. The second time, the same person mentioned that the appointment letter may not be required for approved I-485 case. However, I can't have my biometrics done earlier than the appoinment time. Maybe I'll try my luck on Friday afternoon instead. It seems that some ACS personnel are confused about biometrics for approved I485 and pending I485. The pending I485 do have appointment letter and the approved cases don't.

FYI. I did have my FP done much earlier than the appointment last year while my I-485 was pending.

Chaos continues at ASC

I and my wife walked-in San Jose ASC at 2:00pm today afternoon. I had
called 800 number on 485 approval notice few days back and received an appointment for late October to do Biometrics. But I decided to try early
BioM. anyways.

Guard at the gate looked at our notices and said I need a Biometric notice.
I insisted that there is still a disconnect between this ASC and CSC.
Immediately he diverted me to the lady who sat the desk diagonally opposite
from him.

Lady was pretty nice, but even she was confused by that letter. I told her
that I have already heard from so many other applicants about this confusion
and it is about time that you and CSC get your ducks in row.

She went inside and talked to someone. Came back with negative expression.
Said she talked to her supervisor and he is not aware of any procedure
change. I told her that I knew this would happen and hence I had already
called CSC before-hand. CSC had said that if they refuse doing Biometric
using this letter, talk to the supervisor.

Then she said ..'Well we are not INS, let me talk to INS supervisor who
sits here'. She took our notices and driver license and went to a room
directly behind her and talked to the INS supervisor. Came out, same
story !! I said bummer. If this continues, then I'll have to go through
same excercise on my actual appointment date.

So I asked her let me talk to the INS supervisor. She said she doesn't
want to talk to me. Ok ?!?!?! I asked for her name. She said she can't
give me her name. Well ..

I think I am going to talk to 800 number again and speak to some
supervisor and find out what's going on. If 800 number stays this is
what the procedure is, then I am going to go and sit at the ASC
and not move until they do the Biometrics.

I also need to ask 800 number what code should I do. I don't remember
what code we did last time.

anyway .. I encourage more people to go there and bang on the door.

Hi outletvolt1

Hi outletvolt1,

Don't worry .. you take it easy Okay
Heh !! they are always confused and they confuse us even more.

I went to SF had my passport printing and went to the nearest ASC and got Biometrics done too. In fact when the lady saw my approval letter she asked me where is the Bio appointment letter. I said I don't have one and the other office instructed me to visit this office for Bio. She got confused as usual and asked her Supervisor. The supervisor came in .. and believe me or not he was so nice and asked her to take mine immediately. And above all he even took care of our kid who was playing with him for a long time while we both took our finger printing with pictures. I think the code they wrote on our approval notice was code 3. And the rest went fine and they even said you will get the card soon and bid "bye" with good remarks.

I know it also depends on some luck but yeah I encourage you to go to either oakland or SF next where they care a little better to the fresh immigrants. Atleast in my case .. ;-)

Good luck to you ..

Hi Sonpapdi,

I have taken appointment for Bio which is late october. I reading various experiences which are confusing.

So you said printing meaning passport stamping (551)?
Is it required? I got 485 approval which says nothing about it.

I have appointment in San Jose ASC. Can you just walk-in in Okland or SFO ASC?

Thanks
SK

outlet_volt & others

Were you guys able to get thro the biom process at some ASC w/o an appt ?

I got my approval notice today and needless to say, it's the same format as a few of you guys have received over the past week. There's no code and no separate biom appt letter. I'm not sure if i should try walking in at SJ ASC tomorrow and try my luck.

Can you guys advise ?

Thanks!
-Kandadude.
