waiting for visa nr. OPT expires soon

my OPT expires in 2 weeks. My I-130 has been approved and I am waiting for a visa nr. to become available. The laywer called me last week and said they just picked the visa nrs. and I wasn't in there so I still have to wait another 3-8 months. INS said they are processing the nov. 2000 applications now (my dad filed for me on sep.2001 as a citizen, for both his children over 21.) so I guess that means I have to wait another year??? The problem is, I am working now and that really threw me off. The school I am working for as an instructor really needs me for next semester and the laywer told me the only way to keep my status is go to school again. that is killing me because 1.I have to pay for school and I am in debt2.I can't work as a student outside campus because I am international. My school is willing to pay for me to go to school in order to stay here and work as long as I get my green card in 3 months. is there any way to push it and any website I can check processing dates?

What's opt?

You can work 20 hours a week on a student visa (F1) but I think on campus. The deadlines for internaional students have long past! Nov 15. But try checking with the school to see what they can do.

I wrote you a message on your private.

no way to push it. Keep staying in F-1 status or transfer to J-1 or H1B. Lots of people are in your situation. I have been in F-1 status for 9 years before I could apply for AOS. Good luck!

Check with your school if they can get you on H-1 or H-3. I think it will be the cheapest for you and best solution in your situation.

If thats not possible, being on F-1 is the only way out. You can still work on campus for 20 hours a month.

questions!

thanks alot you guys. I have some questions, in case you know:
1.do I have time to register for school or is it too late? my grace period is 60 days. I am told the cheapest solution is a community college (I live in CA) but is there anything cheaper than that?
2.In the worst case senario, can I leave the country, and come back with my tourist visa (which is valid for another 6 years or so) or was my visa status over-written by my student status? it doesn't say cancelled on my passport so i guess it's still valid.
3.I can apply for a journalist visa because I correspond for a couple of publications for my country. do you know how long they take?
I really appreciate your time. I hate to leave now that I just found a job I really like.
