waiting for background check??

I got recommended approval after the intervew for the asylum back in july 2005. however for final approval they said they need my fingerprints and background check come to the office, which i did back in june before the interview. i am still waiting for any information from asylum office( florida), when they said it shouldnt take more than 2 weeks and its march 2006 already!!! :confused:, i cant check the status of my case online, 800-375-5283 uscis pnone number not helping either. how long should i wait anyway or theres any other way to find out?
 
"recommended approval" after the asylum interview? I have never heard about this. Can you elaborate if possible?

By the way ,why can't you check the status of your case online? Don't you have a NA with a file number on it?

I had the asylum interview in July 2003, two weeks later they gave me this reccomended aproval letter, this basically means you are approved but they cannot give you the final letter until you background are cleared, so unless you have something serious in your background you are approved.
I got the final approved letter six months later in feb. 2004, I recommend you to call the asylum office where you have your case and ask them about this, I did this a couple of times and they told me they were gonna let the director of the office know about my case and it seems this worked for me because two weeks later I got the approval letter, so call them and try to get the director of the asylum office if you can.

what is na?

cant check my status online because my receit number doesnt start with those first 3 letters that they have as example, i have different ones.
applied for my employment card just after the "recommended approval" in july, received it a month later(august). since then nothing.??? :confused: thank you for your immediate reply :)

The same story with our case. Got the recommended approval first and 6 months later the I-94.

I got recommended approval letter 14 months after the asylum interview.

I feel your pain. I received my "Recommended Approval" letter in March of 2005 and it's been a year already since I've been waiting. You cannot check the status of your case online or by calling the 800 number either because of "confidentiality reasons due to it being an asylum application" or that's the response I got from calling them anyway. I decided to take a day off and visit the Asylum Office where I had my interivew. The lady I spoke to actually gave me the name of the officer that had my file. (It was not the same officer who interviewed me). She told me to give her a call or send an inquiry by fax. After calling a few times and leaving voicemails, I finally got through to the officer that had my file. She advised me to send her a written fax request since she could not divulge any facts over the phone. I faxed her and asked her what was going on with my case since I had been waiting almost a year now. She replied via USPS. I got a standard letter stating "We mailed a "Recommended Approval" to you in March 2005. Your mandatory background check is still pending..." blah blah blah....All she did was give me my current status. This happened a few weeks ago. I'm going to wait another week and I will initiate another request and this time, i will address it to the Director of the Asylum Office. It's getting to be ridiculous. Our clock for applying for adjustment won't event start till the date they issue us our I-94's. A YEAR from that date, we can only APPLY for readjustment.
 
Oh my god, if that is the case, then this is scary. I called my AO today cause it's been 3 weeks since my interview and he said he transferred the case to another officer for "final processing" before it is sent back to the NSC. He said it "won't take that long" for me to get the new I-94, but I thought that it would be a couple of weeks, rather than 6 months or a year!!!!!!!
 
Send a letter to your member of Congress and ask him/her to look into this.

I think you shouldn't worry at all. kate_83 is talking about initial asylum application, which, in some instances, may take a decade or more to be resolved and I sincerely hope it's going to happen to her. Your nunc pro tunc is a formality and its most time consuming (scheduling) and most difficult (actual interview) parts are in the past for you. The rest will be easy. (Keeping my fingers crossed) ;)

Thanks for the encouragement, but I am jinxed. It will probably happen to me 2.
Anyways, when is your interview scheduled for? Was it at San Fran? I think you r bringing an attorney, right? Let us know how it goes, can't wait to hear of another n-p-t experience!!!!!

I still do not have any information about the date of my NPT intrview. I live on SF AO service area, not in SF itself or close, in the Bay Area. I'm bringing an attorney to the hearing. In fact, I made this decision after reading about your experience in the AO. :eek: I will certainy keep you posted when someting starts happening. As for now, there's nothing to brag about. My attorney told me that waiting an intrview for a few months in cases like ours is nothing unusual. Meanwhile, my life goes on and I will get married some time in June or July and would rather have an interview after the wedding - just for convenience of reporting my new last name and avoiding changing the name on the GC afterwards. :D Besides, my fiance happens to be a native-born USC and what really matters for my citizenship application is the date of marriage. I don't really care if the NPT will be delayed for a few more months! :cool:

No, no. Karina, you are right; it was about the initial asylum app. But considering my luck, I am assuming that this could very well happen to me. Our initial asylum process did not take more than ten months to one year, from the date of the application, to the final approval letter, including the recommended approval in the meantime.

But nothing so far from asylum case, I got married and now adjusting my status through my husband,hopefully this won't take as long:o
