Waiting Asylum decision

Yeah, they did ask about additional evidence. But at the end of the interview, the officer did not ask me if I wanted to add anything else that was not discussed already. I thought it was customary for officers to ask if there was anything else you wanted to add before the interview concluded.
 
Hi! I’m a new member and a long time lurker here.

I had my interview a couple of months ago, and a couple of weeks ago I received a call from USCIS, the asylum officer who interviewed me, to confirm my postal address before “sending the decision”. After that they said “by the way, the asylum was approved”.

Since then, I have received my I-94 and the new EAD.

Timeline:
- October 2015: Affirmative Asylum received
- November 2019: status changed to “Initial Review”
- March 2020: Status changed to “Testing and Interview”
- June 2025: “We have scheduled your interview”
- July 2025: Interview
- September 2025: received call to review postal address and was told asylum was approved
- September 2025: received approval and new I-94 and EAD.

This has been on the Miami Asylum office for all these 10 years. After all this time I still feel like I’m dreaming. So long waiting for this.

I’m posting this mostly to encourage people waiting for almost a decade. This is achievable even on the current political context. Hang in there!

Congratulations am so happy for you am also in the 10years waiting I have been called in again for a 3rd interview after all these years am happy for you I pray I get this good news too one day so I can be happy 10years of nervousness and tears

I pray for a good outcome for your case. I personally do think that if an officer wants to interview you more than once it’s because they think they want to approve you but they need more supporting information.

In my interview, I do think my attorney’s final remarks made a difference. After 3.5 hours in there, they were able so summarize my experience in actual legal terms of persecution. I will forever be grateful for their intervention.

I know for affirmative interviews “a lawyer is not required”, but in my case I do think I wouldn’t have been able to convey my case in the correct legalese terms.

My interview was on the Miami AO. My case was prepared 10 years ago by a lawyer that is currently in Georgia but used to be a a "Super Lawyers" Rising Star in Florida. They were not available for such a short notice interview so they recommended a colleague in South Florida and they were the ones to make the actual final remarks.

All in all, this success is a team work between my original lawyer preparing the case and the one who attended my interview. If you want to know actual names send me a PM, but you should know they specialize mostly in LGBTQ+ cases and they are not really taking a lot of new cases right now because… *Points around*

Hi everyone I’ve been waiting 9 months for my asylum decision at the Chicago asylum office do you know if it’s possible to file a mandamus lawsuit at this stage to push for a decision or is it too early? Also if anyone has filed a mandamus just to get a decision how much did it cost you?

Hi, I’m not familiar with the mandamus, but I can suggest that you try requesting FOIA.However, a FOIA will not force a decision, it just gives you information.

I filed mandamus after waiting 10 months, have received my approval 2 months after application
