Many thanks in advance regarding any feedback about my question.

My friend is currently going through political asylum process but like to move back home, Voluntary departure from the country and stop on going immigration process regarding his case. Please advise a proper process he should follow to exit US.

Thanks
:)

Just let the immigration officer or the immigration judge whichever applies to you that you would like to stop the case and would like voluntary departure. A date will be set by which time you must depart. After your departure from the U.S. you have to report to a U.S. consulate nearest you to show proof that you have left the U.S.

Don't say its my friend to hide yourself. its an old bag of tricks. I am sure that its you personally.

Well if you are not out of status, than you get just go home. No questions will be asked. But if your I-94 has expired then you will asked additional questions at the port of exit and your name and passport# put into the system and you will be barred from entering back into the US for so long (I mean time period for bar depends on the length of your illegal stay). I am sorry to say this but even after this bar period, you will find it almost impossible to secure a visa to the US again from the consulate.
So to answer your question, if you plan to leave the US (whether currently you are legal or illegal), you should do it immediately and your life would be simpler.
best of luck,

Thanks for your feedback Lazerthegreat and mesbahul.

Lazerthegreat, this question is for my friend and my status is none of your business. Oh heck let me tell you to ease your mind; I am a Canadian Citizen working in US with GC. If you don't believe me then write your email address in your reply and will email you address in Houston, TX, so you can come by at your own expense, and I will take you my work place, hell I even buy you a lunch. Now ball is in your court, come to Houston and I will apply all the documentation necessary to ease your curiosity regarding your remark.
Some people do post questions about their friends because they care about their friends so my request to you is this please keep your smart remark to yourself and just answer the question OK!

my friend read the post carefully, your question was already answered. Thanks for the invitation to Houston, I live in midwest now but someday maybe I can visit you down there... :D

Could someone please advise regarding a process which take place after judge makes his or her final decision? Would a judge allow a volunteer departure, some time to wrap up personal belonging and leave the country on their own? Or a person, denied asylum, is taken into custody right then and there and INS will deport when they have all of their tasks taken care off? If person is taken into custody, how long will a person be in custody before they put in plane?
Thanks in advance for any feed back.
