Visa Stamping Question - Urgent!!!

Hi, I am off to India next week to get my H1B stamped in Bombay.

This is with reference to one of the questions that TTS has on the web dropbox: Have you been refused a Visa before?

I was refused 5 years ago for a Student Visa, but a year later I got it and again got another student visa stamping last year using the dropbox, and now this is my first H1B.

So after getting 2 visas from Bombay, do I need to tell them that I was refused a visa before and this would make me ineligible for a web dropbox and instead I would have to go for a personal interview...

Can't I just say no???

tia,

Manish

What did you say in your student visa thru drop box last year? Stick to the same story. Either way it should not hurt your h1 stamping. Since you were eventually granted the visa, it is not going to matter whether you answer yes or no.
But it pays to be consistent.

Last year I said yes on the form..but I used the web dropbox. But if I say Yes now, I would have to be interviewed..which is a pain I guess...

thanks Jaxen..

Drop box

I believe that if you already have had a visa (say H1) stamped from the same consulate (say Mumbai) then you can go for the drop box.... In fact, that apparently is the only way to get it done! Does anyone have any experience on this??

Please do post back your experiences at Mumbai as soon as you get your visas. There are many of us in the same queue (I myself am going to Mumbai mid-Sept to get a stamp for an extension that I recvd on my H1)

On the same note, does any one know how long it takes for the Mumbai consulate to return your passport once the drop box center has accepted the paperwork? The website says 2/3 days, and I believe some folks said they got it back on the 3rd day after application, but just wanted to know some recent feedback. My lawyer says that they do security checks (DS 157 related perhaps) and that it can take time, but cases like ours are essentially a visa stamping for an extension, so it hopefully does not take ages!! ???

Thanks and take care all! :)

I have another question for H4 ext/ visa

I and my wife got h1 and h4 ext recently, but we are going to use drop box at mumbai for visa stamping as we are visiting india in next few months, my wife traveling early,

1. can she go for dropbox using her h4 ext before I stamp h1 ext on my passport ?

2. I heard chhenai consulate need h1 stamp before giving h4 visa ? Does mumbai consulate ask for that ?

3. What happen if some document is missing (like my h1 visa stamp on my passport) when you use drop box through courier ?

Anybody in simmilar boat or any similar experience ?

I appricate any feedback.

Thanks,

JB

JBM...

I called the Mumbai consulate just 2 days ago on the visa info number. Apparently my wife will need to get her H4 stamping done either at the same time or after I get my H1 stamp. Have also read elsewhere on this forum that such is the case at other places too. So you might not want to take the risk. Especially if you are planning to use courier, etc... it might simply mean unnecessary hassle as they can then go into a paperwork loop. If you apply in person, at least you have the satisfaction (however weak!) of knowing that the person who took your papers went through them and knows what he/she is doing !!! ;-)

All the best...and lets keep our fingers crossed! :)
