Visa # assigned?

nileshpatell11 EB2 approved on August 13, 2007

TheRealCanadian,

With all due respect, I beg to differ from your frequent analysis on Visa# allocation and subsequent approval of I-485.

Appreciate if you could explain the Visa# allocation and I-485 approval sequence of nileshpatel11 under a different thread.

Thanks - IE

USCIS adjudicators have been known to "batch request" visa numbers to speed up the process; if they have 50 cases then they may request 45 or 50 numbers at a time, and then allocate them as they approve each case.

The other thing to keep in mind is that the USCIS online system may record the date of approval as the date the I-485 approval notice was generated, not necessarily the date that the I-485 itself was approved. Usually, there's a gap of at most a day or so between the two.

The bottom line is that once dates retrogress, you may see a trickle of approvals in the first few days of the month if the adjudicator batch requested numbers in the previous month, worked slowly and the approval was on a Friday and the notice was printed on a Saturday or Monday.

But it's now the 10th of the month. I don't think we're going to see any more EB approvals until October.

His I-485 was approved on the 9th. There's a possibility the visa number was requested in the previous month as part of a batch.

I'm absolutely certain that Visa #s are assigned at or around the time of I-485 approval, not before. I was in the room when my visa number was assigned, as well as when the I-485 was approved.

I think TheRealCanadian is right, but USCIS must have done something different and unusual for them in the last week of June. Otherwise, how could they allocate 60,000 visa numbers in such a short time? I think the approvals we see now are part of this batch: USCIS assigned visa numbers to cases that they believe would be approved shortly (name check passed probably). Now they are going through these cases again and approving them at a slower pace.

One thing is for sure. When USCIS made announcement on assigning 60000 visa numbers they definitely took atleast few early cases applied in June.Otherwise how can someone explain nileshpatels approval , who applied 48 in june.

I was and still partly confused about how this assignment works at USCIS.See my original post

I think if not all we will be seeing atleast some approvals for cases file in June before october.

This time it was bit different. CIS allocated the visas to the cases which they deemed
approvable , even though were pending in name checks.
In the last week end of June end they tried to allocate 25,000 visas.

So it was very unusual this time...an exception !

So any updates anyone? I completed my FP recently. Hopefully some good news will come soon... :)

How USCIS assigns visa# is really a mystery.

I got approval notice (and email) at end of Aug 2007

GC says: Permanent resident since 7/2/07
Card valid till: 8/28/07

It is very strange that approval notice and LUD were at end of Aug while card says Resident since July 2.

How can approval notice be end of aug while residency starts in Jul?

One speculation can be that the case was approved on July 2, but no one had time to generate approval notice or order card production until end of Aug
