USCIS Just Announced Launch of New EAD in June 2004

USCIS has just announced that it will launch a new EAD that incorporates the security features and validity period beyong one-year in some cases. Form number will change from I-765 to I-766. Please check following for detail:

http://uscis.gov/graphics/publicaffairs/newsrels/EAD_PR_05_20_04.pdf
Every CIS document has a form number, for EAD card it is I-766. This is different from application form number (I765). While the version of the form I765 may change, there is no indication that the number will too.

early June!!! Well then this is interesting news!!!
What's interesting about it? The same 1-year EAD, but now with a magnet strip and no references to former INS - sure, that's goona help us a lot!
They just keep wasting resources on unnecessary projects instead of clearing backlog.

Benefits of the regulation

Guys,

I understand that we do not need to apply for EAD renewal frequently and hopefully the USCIS resources would be freed up. Are there any other benefits which I am missing ?

Does this regulation have any impact on pending EAD applications ? The regulation does not specify the period of validity beyond 1 year the category of EAD that would get benefitted by this regulation. Any ideas ?

Thanks.

My current EAD expires in November this year and was planning to apply for renewal soon, so shuold I wait until June or apply anyway and I will get the new card with a chance of having it issued for more than a year?

It should not matter really. You will get the benefits anyways. Just to be on safe side - apply in June. (hardly 10 days more to go). In any case you will still not be short of 90 days in Nov.

Thanks, maybe I will apply for the AP now and EAD in june.

There is nothing which says they are gonna issue EAD's for two years.
All it says is EAD's usually are issued for one year there are some cases where they issued for longer than one year.

This is a just new card which "latest security features".

EAD /AP renewal

Any body doing renewal by self. If so, provide info. What are the requirement for renewal. Please let meknwo or PM me.

I am planning to do it my self as lawyer charges about 250 per person per application that cost me about 2250$ ( self + family ) including USCIS fees.

Thanks

06/04/2004: OMB Cleared Rule to Authorize EAD for 2-Year Pending I-485 Applications

On June 2, 2004, OMB completed its review and cleared the USCIS Interim Rule which authorizes the agency to issue a EAD valid up to two years. This category is reserved for those applying for adjustment of status, having filed Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, with the Department. The rule change would give USCIS the flexibility to issue EADs for the length of time it anticipates that adjudication of a given case will take.
USCIS has already announced issuance of a new EAD card, I-766 with enhanced security feature and already indicated that the EAD card will be issued more than one year for certain aliens. Obviously, the announcement implied application of the new multiple-year EAD rule for the I-485 applicants. It is expected that the USCIS will publish this extended EAD rule in the federal register soon.

You will get one in mail after approval. EAD is I-766.

usnycus,

Can you explain what you mean by "you will get one in mail"? Are they sending I-766 form by mail? Is that the only way to get it now? I need to apply for my EAD renewal soon, not sure whether to use the old form I-765 or wait for the new form I-766 to be released. confused.

Me think what USNYCUS ment was you use form 765 for EAD renewal and when EAD is approved you will get the new EAD card with new security features on it and maybe 2 yrs validity depending on your case. This new EAD card is called 766.
