US immigration to clamp down on Indian professionals
Washington: Reports quoting American immigration authorities say the US government has decided to reduce the issuance of H-1B visas to professionals from other countries.
The move comes amid US protests at outsourcing jobs to India in the information technology sector.
In another development, Republican Congresswoman Nancy Johnson has asked five leading American companies to reveal how many Indians are employed by them. The insurance companies are: Aetna Inc., CIGNA Corp, The Hartford Financial Services Group, The Phoenix Cos. Inc and Travelers Property Casualty Corp.
There are growing allegations, the H-1B visa programme is being abused.
