Ok I have a question about USC for asylees. I got my GC In 2005..backdated to 2004. Does physical presensce of 30 months count from 2004 or 2005?

Also to not break continuous residence, you can't be out of country for more than 6 months right? In a year?

so total time out of country in 5 years(60 months) should be not more than 30 months? Is that how it works?

I am asknig this because I may have to leave for few months back and forth for family issues and was wondering what I need to do to preserve my citizenship requirements.

It counts from the date it says resident since and you need to be here for 30 months. It is safe to not be out of the US for more than six months, but I think It has no limit per year, the reason is to make sure you have a tie to the US and you live here and pay your taxes and you are still a permanent resident of this country. Having a Re-entry permit will be very helpful in this situation. I would try to avoide anything close to this limit because it may raises questions.

Good Luck

(1) Do not be gone by more than six months each time; (2) use a reentry permit and (3) meet the 30 month physical presence requirement.

Then you should be fine.
