US Citizen sponsoring parents

Ladies and Gents,
I have a quick question,how long will it take to get travel documents after US citizen sponsors his/her parents for GC?Is 4-5 a real time line? Is it recommended to travel with a travel passport and go out of country prior to interview?

No,I meant a travel document for sponsored parents.How long would it take for parents to get any kind of documentation that will allow them to re-enter the US?

And who will give them travel documents ? they should use there passports .
 
They will need their green cards to be approved in order to enter the US in immigrant status. That happens at the end of a successful green card process, which generally takes about a year for parents being sponsored by their US citizen child.
