Hello,

I am a US citizen, and would like to sponsor my parents for GreenCard, but I have a question. Can I sponsor my sister for GreenCard along with my parents if she is a minor ( less than 18years). Your answers would be greatly appreciated.

thx
RK

I read from another person in this forum that it could be better to apply for your parent's GC only (can this be done??) and wait 5 years till they become citizens and then, they can apply for your sibbling. This would be good idea if your sibbling would still be under 21 at the time your parents become citizens. That way sibbling only waits 5 years. Otherwise, Dr Lha is right sibling would have to wait....around 10+ years for GC.....check with a lawyer....

Sponsoring parents and wife

Hello, I am a US citizen in India now and have a related but hypothetical question about sponsoring my parents and wife for green card.

Is there a limit on sponsoring both parents and my wife (after I am married)? ie, is there a limit on the number of people I can sponsor at the same time?

Thanks in advance,
Lakshmi

no limit in the immigration sense. But if your income is insufficient to sponsor 4 people, then you need to find a co-sponsor.

Citizen sponsor with foreign address?

Hello,

Thanks for the information above, it is appreciated!

Another question - can I sponsor my parents while I reside in India? ie, I don't have a US address to put on the I-130 only my India address. I am guessing no, but thought I would ask anyway...

TIA,
Lakshmi.

Lashmi,
Some US embassies and consulates let US citizens sponsor immediate relatives without US domicile. Check with your local embassy/consulate. You will be expected to show intentions and actions working to set up US domicile in the near future.

One doesn't have to be a citizen to sponsor theer children, unless the kid(s) is/are married. You can file for ANY AND ALL unmarried children. However, they fall in different categories according to age. Under 21 - there is no wait for a visa number or anything. Right now it is taking less than a year for citizens and non-citizens. Over 21 is in a different category.

You have to be a citizen to file for a sibling, parent, or married children. Spouses and unmarried children of any age can be filed for by green card holders.
