I shall try to make this as short as possible..

Hypothetically speaking...

I am a US Citizen residing in Australia with my Australian born husband.. We want to permanently reside in the US.. My husband has a job offer at a mid-western college with a start date in late August..

What type of visa does he apply for? And is this even possible, time wise, considering we are now into the month of April.. The college fall semester starts late August early Sept..

Any suggestions? I wanted to arm myself with some background information before I go to the US Consulate here in Australia.

You should look up the K3 visa, come to US and apply for adjustment of status and EAD. Spouse can begin work only after approval of EAD.

Being the spouse of a US citizen, your husband basically has three options for moving to the US. H-1B visa, L-1A/B visa or a green card. It would make sense for you to start working on sponsoring him for a green card.
