What do I need to file for my children 13 and 14 after I become a citizen?
Someone give me some links so I can get this ball rolling soon before things get tighter. The children are abroad, have never been in the US.
What's the process and the Consulate issues one has to face so I get prepared.
They were claimed on my N400 application even on Green Card.

Any help will be helpful.

You have to file for a green card for them first (with I-130 as mentioned above). Once they enter the US with their immigrant visa and begin to live with you in your legal custody when you are a citizen, you can apply for their US passport and/or N-600.

Marriage based. Three year rule is what I got approved for G/C and Citizenship.
Thank you for the response. I have filled the 1-30s but how long does it take and what other steps do I have to go through during the I-130 filing?

I am having my Oath on Wednesday next week. (16th, September, 2009) Houston DO.
Thank you.

You "filled" it in or you "filed" it? If you already filed it (sent it in), that's not good, because then you'll have some delay and hassle with getting it upgraded after you become a citizen. It would be smoother and faster to wait until after citizenship and then submit it, so it would be associated with your citizenship status from beginning to end.

I did not FILE it yet. I did fill it the forms and I have them already. Was waiting till I finish Oath Wednesday and then make copies of certificate and send them in for filing. That will help. I thought it takes like few months.
Wow...
So I have another year to have my children come here!!!! After 14 years of being patient? They said Visas for Citizens do not have to wait. No?

They don't have to wait for a priority date. They still have to wait for the processing to be completed.

Out of curiosity, why didn't your US citizen spouse file for them?

No, I have heard so many issues when people filed for their children as Permanent residents and so it would have been harder they said till I came to this forum just last year and started learning of all things that go on. And I have been educated here.
I figured I had a battle to fight of my own so let me fight it and then get the children. I also needed them to complete their primary school over there and then they come here for high school.
That was the reason why.
I figured since I had already put them on file, it would be better and easier.

It's not that you would file for them as a permanent resident. Your US citizen spouse would file for them, because stepchildren of a US citizen are treated as immediate relatives, provided that your marriage occurred before the children's 18th birthday and they are still under 21.

So your reason is that your wife didn't file for them because you didn't know she could do that.

Yes, I did not know that. Had I known, they would be here by now. It never occurred to me till now you tell me my friend.
Next time I will advise others.
Thank you so much. I kept thinking it was only I to do it.
Thank you.
