US-born spouse of an OCI holder - marriage certificate?

Hi,

My wife is US born and i have an oci. I would like to get her an OCI even though her parents are american through the OCI card for Foreign Spouse of Person of Indian Origin.
On the application page it says marriage certificate must be 'Original & Self-attested Copy'.

does this mean i have to send the original marriage certificate via mail? i dont trust ckgs to not lose things like that.

also what on earth is self-attested?

I guess you do have to send an original if you do it by post. A self attested copy is when you sign the copy.

is there a way to not do it by post? like go there in person and have it verified?
