Hello All,
I entered US on a F1. Then after graduating I went to work for on a H1B. I haven't left US after I entered the country. My status was changed with H1 and new I-94. I am going to India very soon and therefore wil need to get a H1 stamp on my passport before I can enter. My area of residence is in Eastern India and therefore I will have to apply from Calcutta.
I have a number of questions. Any help shall be greatlt appreciated.

1. The calcutta consulate web page mentions that people "first time with Business Executive Program " can use the drop box for visa processing. What does that mean?

2. What is the scene like in India to do visa processing in any of the consulates in India- especially Kolkata.

3. What documents should I take for visa processing?

Any explanations shall be greatlya appreciated.

Thanks

Answer for 1

1. That is for registered companies with kolkatta consulate. But you might also be eligible for drop box.

Interview during H1B

Thank you Jaxen!!

I had asked earlier whether I needed to get a interview. I had written to the consulate and they said that I needed to go for the interview!! Now related to this I have a few questions.

1. Are there any preapproved American companies whose employees are exempt from interviews? How do I find out.

2. I entered the US on a F1 visa stamped in Madras. I entered the US 5 years ago and never left. In the mean time my status changed from F1 to H1B.
Now I have to go to Calcutta for H1B stamping as my passport is from Calcutta. Will this pose any problems?

3. What is the H1b visa scene like in Calcutta?

4. What are the challenges that I may have to face with the H1B interview. Is it as bad as the F1 interview :-((

Please help. A quick response shall be greatly appreciated.

1. Only for Indian companies. If your company has an office in kolkatta find out from them.

2. You should get the visa from a consulate near your residential address and the address in passport.

4. None. See ttsvisas.com for the possible documents required. I129 copy, LCA, contract, employer letter, paystubs/w-2 are essential docs .

Followup questions

1. Do I conclude that it is nominal to ask H1B visa holders to come to the consulate for a interview when the company is based in US? I work for a big 5 consulting firm that has no local office in Calcutta. :-(

2. The interview for H1 is nothing like F1- is my understanding right?

3. Though my passport is from Calcutta, my first visa which is a F1, is from Madras- would that have any bearings on my visa stamoing now?
