A friend has been out of status for 10 years during which period she was working and paying taxes , she just recently married a citizen last year and filled for green card ,her interview is next month and they asked to bring all sorts of documents including tax returns for 3 years and pay stubbs and letter from employer.
Should she go with these documents since she was not supposed to be working or should she just say she has not been working

If she was paying taxes, then she was working and IRS/USCIS know about it. To lie would be stupid.

the USCIS usually asks for tax returns and pay stubs and letter from employer from the sponsor (that is, the husband) for the affidavit of support, not the sponsored person.

In any case, illegal presense and illegal employment are forgiven in the case of marriage to a USC.
