URGENT: Lost passport in canada after H1 stamping

I came to montreal canada for h1 b stamping from New Jersey. I got my Visa stamped in the passport and while returning back to US, i lost all my documents including passport, I 797 Approval and also copies of my documents, before crossing the US border. Now i am stuck in canada. I logded a complaint at the local police station. Please help me with the procedure to get back to US.

My advice is go to Indian consulate in Montreal and get a new passport. Then go to US Consulate to discuss this issue.

Sorry to read this message. Try and do the following:

1. Seek an appointment to meet the Chief of the Indian Embassy/Consulate in Montreal. Use all your negotiating skills to meet him/her, explain the situation and request for an emergency passport or an equivalent document. Give a copy of the police report to them for reference along with a copy of your passport (if you have one).

Just wondering if you have a photocopy of the visa stamp - That will help your case a lot better.

2. Talk to your Lawyer/HR Dept. in US to request for an additional/duplicate I-797 copy from Service cnetre where you applied. In the meanwhile if you have a photocopy of the same, hang onto it and keep it safe

3. Email the US Consulate in Montreal explaining your case and if you have the photocopy of the visa stamp, just attach it to the request letter and send it to them. Also, call them adn see if you can explain the situation to anyone.

I uderstand the trauma you must be undergoing in such a situation. It is not easy, but be patient and everything will work out. You must be seeking a lot of advise from the forum and outside. Use whatever information is helpful to you. We all hope that your situation will be cleared soon and you will be back in US

A15. A U.S. nonimmigrant visa is a valuable document. Please notify the U.S. Consulate immediately if you have misplaced your passport and lost your visa. You would need to obtain a new nonimmigrant visa by applying for one at our Office. At the time of your application please present the Police First Incident Report (FIR) from the Police precinct where the passport was lost in India or overseas as well as a photocopy of the lost Passport and valid U.S. visa, if possible.



1 file police complaint
2. contact the US consulate in Canada and inform you lost Passport with valid Visa and provide copy of police report.
3 contact Indian consulate Montreal fot the passport.
** your lawyer in US or you may have the copy of your Indian passport that may help you for getting Indian passport from Indian consulate in Canada

Thought I would like to share my experience to everyone, it might be useful to other person, who unfortunately under goes this situation.

I called the CBP (customs border petrol) people and explained my situation, asked them is there any possibility that I can enter US without document. They told me there is good amount of chances that I can enter US. So I went to US Consulate in Canada, tried to report my passport and visa lost, but the security people were not allowing me to enter into the build. Security has passed my number to the consular and said consular will call me back.
Then I went to Port of entry (by drive) gave the copies of document I had (police report, US driving license and copies of passport, which I luckily found in my mail as scanned copies). The immigration people were able to pull my data from their database. The good part of this incident is I lost passport after my visa got stamped. So they allowed me to enter US under missing document wavier program with documentation fee of about 271$.
Now I have to go through the process of applying passport and my degree certificates etc.

I sincerely pray to god no one has to read (no one has to go through this situation) this thread.

-----Good you are back. How did you lost passport? Was it stolen? Post the incident so that others can be careful .
