My mom currently in India with AP. She got 485 initial interview on APR 08.

Can she leave to India, using AP, right after her interview?

Is the AP valid after the initial interview?

Normally how long it will take get GC after initial interview? OR

What are the steps after initial interview up until GC?

Thanks in advance for the response.

If she is approved, she should not use AP to travel. She should wait for her GC.

If approved it usually takes 30 days for you to receive your card.

If she is not immediately approved at interview, she can continue to use the AP (assuming it is valid for multiple trips), however she may encounter difficulties if her GC is approved while she is absent. At that point her AP would cease to be valid, and she'd need the GC to reenter the US.

So what? The POE could still parole her into the US, or give her deferred inspection. AP doesn't give them any new legal authority, it's just a nice note from the director of a Service Center asking them to let the alien into the US.

Thanks for the info...

When do the FBI name check takes place? Before or after initial interview?

If after the interview, then she needs to be here for the length of the time. Am I correct?

The FBI name check usually starts before the interview, but can last until long after the interview to complete. If her AOS is not immediately approved pending FBI name check, she can travel using AP. If her AOS is immediately approved, she should ask for an I-551 stamp to travel until her GC arrives (and it would help if she has documentation of her travel); she may or may not receive the stamp. If her AOS is immediately approved and she leaves, my understanding is nothing special happens. But it would be helpful for her to have the GC to re-enter.
