Urgent: I-94 Incorrect. How to get it corrected?

Hello Everyone,
I recently came back from India in Jan 05. The port of entry was Chicago. While entering, the officer did not ask for the new H1B papers and gave me a date for my old H1 on I-94 which was july 2006. While waiting for my connecting flight, I realized the date was incorrect. I went back to the another officer in Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and showed them my new Papers. All the officer did was scratched the date on it and gave the new date. He did not initial it or anything like that. When I asked will you not update in your system, he said that it is not required.

After a few days, still feeling uncomfortable, I called the CBP no. which I got from their website. Initially the officer said that I have to go out of the country and come back. But then she asked the validity of the old H1 and I said it was till july 2006. And the new H1 was valid till Feb 2007. I said I had plans to visit india again in aug 2005. Then the officer said, in that case it should be fine. All I have to make sure is return my I-94 before I leave.

Can anyone confirm this if it is OK for me to go back in Aug and re-enter safely? My I-94 has two dates on it and the older one is scratched out.
If its not OK, what can I do to get a proper I-94?

I have lost my sleep over this issue. Please help

Thanks

Thanks for the reply ginnu. Your answer that it is OK, is from someone you heard from or something that is based on piece on information that you have?
And yes, not exactly lost sleep, but lost piece of mind surely.
