Hi Y'all, it has been discussed before, well today i decided to go to change it and guess what, the lady wouldn't understand anything, she kept saying, bring your green card and come back , it's like i was talking to a rock. i had the document tat Golbert put here a while back http://www.ssa.gov/immigration/documents.htm
i told her do you have a way to verify with the BCIS, she said yes, I told here where is the problem then, she said bring your GC and come back.
I didn't have EAD since it expired already. i did have the judge's letter.
i applied for a job, got interviewd, if i get called , i have no idea what to tell them. since i didn't apply this year for EAD.

please comments.

thanks

Ask to speak to the supervisor and do not be hesitant to go up the chain of command.

Not long ago I helped someone get her card after I called the deputy ss commissioner's office in Baltimore.

Cider_Or,

I spoke to the senator's office and talked to the person who deals with immigration and once I had her name and fax number
then I faxed the appropriate documents that demonstrated that an asylee should be given an unrestericted social security card.

This lady from senator's office talked to the supervisor of social security office in this particular destination and then called me back that the staff has been appropriately been notified. I went to that location and they took the application and I got the card in mail in about 2-3 weeks. This card did not had any stamp.

As for my experience with the same office, I had gone there previously on two separate occasions...first time they sent me back...second time when I went they took the application but said it is going to be a while because they will check with INS....so I waited and waited..and after three months or so I finally got a letter from social security..but guess what it had a social security card with the stamp on it ...saying vaid only with employment authorization...... anyway....

Best of luck..

Regards,

Thanks a lot guys, I called the BCIS 800 number today and asked them to send me a of copy notice of action for my I-485 which i never received. hopefully with that type of docuements i will be able to show it to the Sup.
right now i only have my DL, SS and a copy of judge letter. nothing else and an expired EAD.
that shouldn't be a problem should it?

Hey Cider,
I am so sorry you were really dealing with a rock!
I went to the local SS office and did not have even slightest problem. Within two wks I got my unrestrictied SS card.

Any progress on I-485? This has began to suck now...

What you are asking the BCIS for is probably not relevent for a ss application!

YOur EOIR order should suffice.

Thanks Gilbert for your advices. Azadindian, nothing, i have given up that entheusiast that i had back in November and December, looks like it's going to be around October or Novemver of 2004. if you think about it, you will say people like you and me will be among the first of the 10 000 for the FY 04. but things doesn't work quite that way with USCIS unfortunatly. I think they are not even issuing a single approval for thi FY so far. Hopefully what that news that Gilbert posted about the law suite (20000 unused visa) will be in practice soon.

go to a different SSA office

Cider_or,

the easiest thing to do, I think, is go to a different SSA office, usually there are more than one in the same area. I did that on more than one occation and it worked, and also, if you go to the same office on a diffrent day and speak to someone else, usually there is that ONE person who doesn't know and doesn't want to know any thing.
try a different location and see how it works.
best luck

Explanation

When you get your asylum approved before you do any adjustment of status to permanent residency. You have to first go to social security to get your SSN unrestricted....If you go to the SS OFFICE after AOS then they cant do it but instead they will give a restricted SSN card...

No they can do it at any time unless they have revoked the underlying asylum status.

no that is not true

Thankful,

i actually tested the matter out with 2 other family members and this is what happen.. my brother and my sisiter got SSN with employment card authorized because they did AOS but i did not do AOS AS YET AND i got unrestricted on my SSN CARD. we all went at the same time.. infact we had a 5 minutes argument with them.. When you file for I-485 that means your case is pending waiting for Approval..

Just take your asylum approval letter and a notice from the INS about the unrestricted card for asylees..i mean whats all this AOS nonsense and pending I-485's..that has nothign to do with your employment eligibility....dont go into details. If you are an asylee take your approval letter...!

If they give you hard time..show them the SSN administration website printout explaining that..usually that works..

Asylum status is indefinite once granted unless the government revokes its, pure and simple.

Correct, all asylees are eligible for a normal social security card. The pending AOS situation is immaterial BS.

Go ahead

I will love you to try this out yourself, we did in new york and that week my brother went to virginia and they said to him that yes you have an I-94 but in their system your status is pending because you made an AOS... this is INS ERROR though.. Infact the SS official said he is going write them a letter to about the issue..

I just did it yesterday in Washington DC for an old high school classmate whose AOS has been pending for about four years.

what

I am very suprised which means they change something in the INS SYSTEM with my other family member.. I will have to ask my mother to give it a try and see what happens..
